Got a chance to catch up with Karre’ and talk about her new song.
What do you want people to know about the song before they listen to it?
“I want ppl to know it’s a cute little bop for the summer. You know it’s really about knowing that a man wants you and you kinda want him. But, you know how it goes ppl don’t want to be real about their feelings and try to keep it player. It’s for the women who really run shit and sometimes you just got to let ppl know what it really is YOU GOT TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT’S UP! It’s a smooth slick way of saying “I got the best out and you know that! You know what’s up!” You know what I mean?”
Absolutly. What inspires you to write music?
What inspires me to continue to write and make music is PEOPLE and life and what I am manifesting for my life.
Do you have favorite line from the song?
Lol it’s more than a line but my favorite part is “That nigga SWEET sweet like me if I ever made you SAY MY NAME you can’t say shit shit bout me! If I tell you to pull up you better pull up with that D. Hamana-Hamana-Hamana THAT SHIT MAGICAL THATS WHAT HE SAID!” Really more so the Hamana Hamana part cause it’s magical lmao and some ppl have really said that I didn’t lie.
I love the melody for what’s up what was harder coming up with the melody or writing the lyrics?
Uhhhh I don’t think none of it was hard but I will say I had to rewrite my second verse to tone down the aggression and make it fit more into the song.
What did you think when you first heard the beat
Actually… what some people don’t know is I was actually listening to Set It Off by Lil Boosie lmao when I was writing the song!! I didn’t have a beat I was literally was my room thinking about a guy I put out my house lol and was just thinking about setting shit off but my way, not the way other girls do it. And I started listening to the song and was just feeling the music. And I started hearing my own lyric which was the second verse so I turned the music off and hurried up and wrote it down. I started off with my second verse then I started writing my other stuff. Then after that, I went searching for a beat to fit what I wrote and just edited it and make it fit the beat I found.
What do you remember about the recording process?
The recording process was a lot I went through two different producers. I was extremely nervous when recording because I felt like this was something new and I was doing a rapping part which was something I’ve been wanting to really get into but no one‘s ever seen that side of me or heard this from me. So I was very nervous about that and was thinking about what other people might think. Even though I had everything written and I did that pretty quickly the recording process was long I didn’t expect that. And I had to go through another producer sound-wise because the first producer didn’t do the sound that I was trying to go for or trying to do. The first try was actually trash and you know as a artist you might start to think your trash because it don’t sound good the first time. And I had to trust myself, the process, and just have confidence. I saw and heard in my head what the song could be and went off that. I found a new producer who had better equipment and he pushed me told me it could better and had me do many takes we redid everything! And I appreciate that. Overall it turned out good and I’m satisfied with the outcome.
