I’m drawing a line. While both the Carter 2 and the Carter 3 by celebrated philosopher Dewayne Carter are incredible audio recordings and moments in time, the Carter 2 is better, in my humble opinion. I’m saying this because I don’t want there to be any confusion about it. I’m on team Carter 2, and I thought it was. Obvious. So, let’s get into it
The Carter 3 is Lil Wayne’s most successful piece of art to date. Big singles, big records even bigger moments. Over a million records sold in a week are hard to duplicate in today’s time. Carter 3 was a victory lap on an already Stellar run that Lil Wayne was on. At the moment, fans knew that Lil Wayne was the best rapper alive, or was that 2 years earlier? We’ll come back to that
Carter 3 cemented Lil Wayne as a household name with singles like Lollipop Mrs officer and comfortable legend status secured with features from Jigga and Busta Rhymes. The Carter 3 was Wayne’s crossover moment, making the Carter 2 his Hip Hop Classic
Carter 2 had the singles and crossover appeal but with less of the glitz and reach. Singles Like Fireman and Money on my mind we’re clear examples of Wayne’s hunger and significant development in skill
Carter 2 feels more cohesive than its sibling to me. There were songs like Fly in and Fly out. He shows his range in song making with features from Robin Thicke and songs like Mo Fire. He doesn’t need the glitz and big features to show he’s the best rapper alive
