The Black Soprano Family’s General has taken the long, scenic way to the top. The good thing about that is the amount of character and the legend that you build on your journey. I can’t say I knew a lot about about Benny The Butcher before Tana Talk 3. Benny’s introduction to me was as if he was a vet and a rookie at the same time. His latest album Burden of Proof just dropped.
Tana Talk 3, the album I was guilty of playing the most in 2018. I needed something to listen that was a little less colorful than J. Cole’s KOD. Benny The Butcher, the rapper that holds nothing back in dope stories about his nights in Buffalo, NY. Benny raps about losses and gains. Ultimately, his respect of the Hip Hop culture always stood out to me. The song 97 Hov pays respect to a “In My Lifetime version” of Jay-Z and an obvious inspiration of Benny.
“I’mma make a whole album bout the plugs I met…” Benny raps on TT3 and in 2019, he released his next project properly titled The Plugs I Met. The album had features from Jadakiss, Blackthought and Pusha T. Benny The Butcher caught attention of even more Hip-Hop fans and solidified his talent as a pure lyricist. Benny has the respect of Legends in Hip Hop Pete Rock, Premier, and Just Blaze have all co-signed and worked the the artist in some form of fashion. 5 to 50 is easily one of the most played songs on my tidal.
