Nas once said, “The Don voice stay pristine like I’m still seventeen.” I think that can be applied to Pusha T. The rapper started out rapping with his brother in the Iconic hiphop group The Clipse in the early 2000s. By the end of the decade, Push was a solo artist with a new deal and some of the same players. His brother Malice had decided to step away from rap for a little while. But as always The Neptunes were around. Pusha T had Inked a new deal with GOOD Music which was founded by Kanye West.
Pusha T’s solo career started off great he had multiple features on Kanye West’s magnum opus album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and even had an undeniable VMA moment to go with it. His first project under the Good Umbrella was My Name Is My Name features songs like Numbers On The Board, Suicide, and the Kendrick Lamar-assisted Nosestalgia. The album which I loved in the moment doens’t hit as hard in 2022.
What I can say about Push is that the growth between MNIMN is amazing. He followed his debut album up with Darkest Before Dawn - The Prelude. This album in my opinion is highly underrated. It features songs like Keep Dealing with Beanie Sigel. Untouchable and my favorite Crutches Crosses Caskets produced by Puff.
Pusha T’s third studio album Daytona is where I believe Pusha T really hit his mark and also is showing artists that staying in your lane and being consistent can bring fans to you. The album is completely produced by Kanye West and might be his most concise album. It’s hard to choose a favorite on this project but I do love Santeria.
Daytona was album of the year when it was released in 2018. I think Pusha T may have done it again this year or at least a contender. His latest project It’s Almost Dry is every it was promoted be. An amazing display of rapping from one of the greats over classic production from some legendary producers. Pusha T has shown he is one of the greatest of all time and is also apart of one the greatest groups in hiphop. He’s kind of like Prodigy in that way.
