COVER STORY/ YOUNG DOLPH
Young Dolph was murdered last month on November 17th. He was a king in his city of Memphis and was continue to hold a high standard for the next generation. The Hip Hop community was and still is shocked by his loss. It still feels unbelievable. Looking back on the countless music and interviews from Dolph you’ll see how smart he was.
In 2016 Young Dolph blew up nationwide with his single Get Paid. From that point, there was no looking back. He was a hustler who came into the rap game with money and was turned down numerous deals with record labels. In 2018 he was in the media for turning down a 22 million dollar deal. A lot of his characteristics remind me of Nipsey Hussle, which make this that much harder to deal with.
The respect for Dolph was earned in the Hip Hop community. He continued to release major hits independently. He followed up with one of his biggest records Preach with 2chainz. This records the industry on notice as well as mainstream fans. What made people continue to pay attention to Young Dolph though?
Earlier I noted the comparisons between Young Dolph and Nip. Young Dolph stood for being an independent rapper and still making money. Fans have told me that “everything Dolph says just sounds cool”. He was charismatic and truly the King of Memphis and didn’t let you forget it.
Role Model was another point where Dolph leveled up in his career release a project full of bangers. The project included songs like By Mistake, Major, and even a feature from Snoop Dogg. By 2020 Young Dolph would collab with Memphis Hip Hop legends Three 6 Mafia and even get a record produced by Juicy J on his project Rich Slave.
He had his own movement putting on his family. It’s extremely unfortunate what happened to this Young Artist. Young Dolph had a lot more to continue to do in this game. What have you learned from Young Dolph?
