COVER STORY/FIVIO FOREIGN
Fivio Foreign, a Brooklyn Drill rapper who jumped on the scene and emerge with the Brooklyn Drill sound. He’s inherited the King of New York title with his close affiliation to Pop Smoke. All he has to do is deliver. With his latest release B.I.B.L.E., Fivio shows that the Brooklyn Drill sound is ready to go mainstream.
The King of New York and New York sound as a whole hasn’t had the same respect as it used to. There have been rappers who’ve claimed the title only to fade away and disrespect the legacy of New York hiphop. I don’t think this is the case for Fivio Foreign. He has already been creating a buzz for himself over the past few years with songs like Big Drip and features on Drake songs.
Over the past few months, Fivio really made a name for himself on Donda with his Off The Grid feature. Since then he’s been featured on songs with everyone from City Girls to Nicki Minaj and He even got Kanye West to executive produce his album.
B.I.B.L.E. is the title. According to Fivi each song is a chapter. The album has 17 tracks and a healthy amount of features from artists all over the industry. For me, some of the best songs on this album are Slime Them, Changed On Me, and Through The Fire.
The album takes New York drill music to another level. I think it safe to say that Fivio with this project, will be the rapper that took New York Drill music mainstream and basically picking up where Pop Smoke left off.
Now it’s time for him to step into the light. It’s recently been announced that he’s headlining Summer Jam. A New York annual festival sponsored by legendary radio station Hot97 at Giants Stadium. That’s definitely a move that the King of New York would make.
