COVER STORY/NAS
Nas the Legendary and now grammy award-winning artist recently released King’s Disease 2. Coming off of rap album of the year, Nas and Hit-Boy ran it back. Nas is sounding younger than ever. He seemed to have really found a new sound for himself with the west coast producer.
It’s amazing to know that Nas still has something to say after 30 years of being crowned the golden child of Hip Hop. Nas still has the inspiration to create another classic album. On this project, the tracklist alone looked like it was going to be an amazing album alone. I mean we’re talking Lauryn Hill features.
I believe everyone’s favorite record on the album has to be Moments. If there’s any rapper that can give you a perfect verse it’s probably Nas. On moments Nasir gave us 3. The Hit-Boy production has a soulful bop to it. Hit-Boy always makes the beats with a little West Coast feel or at least it sounds like it.
One of my favorite records is Death Row East. A song referring to the era when Death Row was on top of the Hip Hop world. So much so that they we’re going to create an East Coast division of the West Coast record label. All of this was obviously during the East Coast vs. West Coast beef. Nas speaks about his run-ins with The Death Row CEO Suge Knight as well as trying to resolve his issues with 2pac.
The Final Song Nas is Good is also one of my favorite songs on the album. Just like on the first King’s Disease Nas and Hitboy close the album out in grand fashion. The song really sounds like the ending of the movie.
Kings Disease 2 definitely lived up to the hype. I believe it is just as good as the first eone if not better. Nas definitely got his second wind in his career and I’m interested in seeing how far he’s going to take the culture.
