HOLD YOU DOWN
Alchemist seems to have already received his flowers. He recently got nominated for a grammy for the album Alfredo. The album, is a collaborative effort with Freddie Gibbs. The album charted at number 12 on billboard and is up for rap album of the year. Alchemist is known for his sample-heavy production, unique collaboration projects and instrumental albums. He has worked with numerous artist, but this year I think he really made some timeless music.
One day probably while listening to music, I thought to myself, I’ve been listening to a lot of Alchemist this year. Between Griselda albums and Alfredo I’ve been hearing his sound everywhere. He’s released two collab projects other than Alfredo, LULU with Conway the Machine, and The Price of Tea in China with Boldy James which is a great album. I played Giant Slide completely out this year.
I think Alchemist is taking his legend lap. He came in the game under Cypress Hill over 20 years ago and has made classic songs with legends over that time. He’s produced for Prodigy, Fabolous, Nas, and many other legends. This year he has been on a role take the joints he’s made for Westside Gunn for example, Liz Lovers Luger, All Praises, $500 Ounces, and Claiborne Kick. That’s 4 for 4 if you ask me.
Alchemist is a legend in the game and deserves to have that “Grammy Nominated” in front of his name at the very least. I do think that they may take home that Grammy in February but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Until then play some alchemist today.
