FLOWERS: Angela Yee
Brooklyn’s own Angela Yee. The determined radio personality turned entrepreneur. She’s probably most known for being a Radio Hall of Famer the Breakfast Club. She started on the Breakfast Club in 2010 but that’s not where her story started. Angela Yee is a legend that paid her dues interning for The Wu-Tang Clan. She has amazing stories about the time she spent working for the Legendary group. I think she even stated that she learned how to play chess from RZA.
After being an intern for Wu-Tang, she began working with Paul Rosenberg for Eminem’s Clothing line. Eventually, she worked her way into being the host of a few shows on Shade45, The Morning After with Angela Yee, and of course Lip Service. This was in 2005. I think there is a lot of praise for Charlamagne and DJ Envy for their longevity in radio and they deserve that. But also think that Angela Yee deserves a little bit more recognition from the culture.
Lips Service is a podcast that now has well over 270 Episodes. Angela Yee should be respected inside and outside of hip-hop culture. In a partnership with Styles P. and Jadakiss, she opened her own Juices For Life store in her hometown of Brooklyn. The store is a necessary function in the community because it gives the people in the neighborhood a healthy option. Even more impressive is that you can get something healthy for less than $7.
When she’s not running the store she’s might be in Detroit. Being that she used to spend a lot of time working for Shade45, it makes sense that she’d been to Detroit a few times. Angela Yee seemed to love Detroit so much that she was buying homes there.
Angela Yee is a great example of an intelligent black woman that’s about her money. She should be celebrated for her inspiring story. Women and men as well can take a few pages out of her book. that’s why we chose her for our flowers section.
