Curtis! I’ve always said that 50 cent has one of the best stories in Hiphop. The come-up includes setbacks, industry blackballing, and career-defining moments. 50 in music sometimes gets a lot of negative press, so I wanted to take the time to celebrate the influence and legacy of 50 Cent.
Plenty of articles are written on here about Grimey artists with that rap over lo-fi beats and instrumentals. The first that may come to mind is Conway, a rapper that has publicly shown love for 50 Cent and his movement. It shows that even without putting out as much music as he uses to, what he did with his time in music still inspires people.
“It goes to show that even without putting out a as much music as he uses to, what he did with his time in music still inspires people.”
When people refer to 50 Cent, I believe most people are thinking about his run from 2003 to 2007 on a mainstream level. I like to think about that as well but, I also believe that the Power of a Dollar project was incredible, so when I found that album I grew to respect 50’s pen a lot more. He’s a mixtape legend. He put on an entire crew, and even after 2007, I still feel like the music was good. He was still putting mixtapes out like The Big 10 and War Angel.
50 Cent’s name still comes up in hiphop conversations. Specifically, career runs and impact. The style that 50 Cent rapped with was different. He's had a way of talking to you in a record and making it feel like he's not just rapping at you. He has become a notable songwriter as far as hiphop history goes and that’s a fact that even his old foes can’t debate.
50 Cent has moved away from rapping on full-length projects. We may get a feature here or there from him. But that Theme song his new show Raising Kanan is pretty dope. It makes me wonder what one more project from 50 would sound like. Until then, I can’t live with celebrating the music and moments he has given us so far.
