AS I AM - DEE WATKINS (WRITTEN BY TOMMY HILL)
Ever since getting to put on the song Wild Child ft. OMB Peezy, Dee Watkins has been one of my top artists to keep an eye on. Providing us with trunk bangers and smooth beats since 2014, Watkins has now blessed us with his new EP As I am.
The most noticed track on the record is Stop Askin featuring Hotboii. The Florida born rapper has been releasing hits since 2015 beginning on Facebook. Over time his popularity grew, and he officially blew up when his hit No Case with BBG hit the internet.
The only problem that I have with this six-song project is that it was too short! First off, every beat on the album is fire. No exceptions. Secondly, Dee speaks from experience and from a place that’s personal for all of us. It’s a record we can all relate to which makes it so appealing to the listener.
At the end of the day, I think his best and one of the realest tracks is Fine On My Own. It’s a complex song, because it can be taken from a number of different perspectives. Heartbreak, perseverance, and betrayal are just some of the things rapped about in this song. And I’m sure if you listen to it enough times you can find even more hidden meanings.
At only 22 years young, Watkins is just getting started and is ready to take over the rap game! After dropping Chosen One and Problem Child 2 this year, look forward to Dee Watkins having a great year in 2021. This album gets a 4.5/5 rating.
