LIFE ON MARS
It goes without saying that 2020 has been a strange year. Things have happened this year that nobody expected to happen. Some things this year have been a pleasant surprise, amongst all of this confusion. Jay Electronica, an enigma of sorts, is a man who’s name is surrounded by praise and criticism. Praise for being one of the best rappers of his generation, projected to be a legend after Exhibit C. Criticized for not having enough music or any music at all for 10 years.
Being a fan of Jay Electronica is tough so much quality and so little quantity. So just when I thought I wasn’t getting any music from Jay Elec, someone asks him in a IG Q&A if he will drop and album with Jigga and his response…”Possibly, Likely” , this guy man.
“Peace to Gza no beef with Rza” Jay raps in that moment it all made sense.
By 2020, a Written Testimony is released during the pandemic nonetheless, Jay Electronica fans loved the album the featured Jay-Z on just about every track. I can’t speak for anyone else but I was content with the project. Six months later Act II The Patents of Nobility (The Turn) leaks on the internet. This album is the follow up to Jay Electronica’s 2007 project and was also deemed to be the original debut album. This was the mythical project that everyone was talking about and waiting for, for over ten years.
Act II is exactly what I expected from Jay Electronica a solid album with a lot of range. “Peace to Gza no beef with Rza” Jay raps, in that moment it all made sense. Maybe Jay Electronica was right, his train is never on schedule but somehow this project was right on time. The issues that he rapped about with the Wu-Tang leader were so long ago I completely forgot about it. The album was rumoured to be around and different people in the industry have claimed that they were just waiting on Jay Electronica to be comfortable enough to release the project. The song Better In Tune With Infinite kind of sums up Jay’s Career to me I guess the legend grows.
