Ok, I get it. I think it was given that we were gonna do a deep dive into Pusha T’s album. With all the content that we’ve put out on him recently, I wanted to talk about his latest album It’s Almost Dry from a different angle. The Production.
One of the more interesting conversations surrounding Pusha T’s first number one album in the production. The music was handled by Kanye West and Pharrell. These are two of Hip-hop's most celebrated artists. The acquired number of accolades and stacked up many accomplishments and also work very well with an artist named Pusha T.
Kanye West has been working with Pusha T for a long time. Push signed to G.O.O.D. music in 2010. Push stood out with his stand-out verses on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. They continued to work together on Push’s debut album My Name Is My Name and have had countless collaborations since. Even before Push went solo Kanye produced Kinda Like A Big Deal for The Clipse and has always shown his admiration for the group.
Pharrell being from the same area as Pusha T has known him longer than Kanye West. The first major moment I remember hearing from them together was Grindin’ in 2002. Pharrell would go on to produce The Clipse albums and when Pusha T was working on his first solo album he also had a hand the project. Daytona may be the only album that doesn't feature any production from Pharrell.
On Pusha T’s latest project these two producers got to have a heavyweight competition on the album. The project is twelve tracks both producers made six. For me, the stand-out tracks that Kanye produced are Dreaming of the Past, Diet Coke, and Rock N' Roll which features Kid Cudi. When it comes to Skateboard P my favorite songs are Call My Bluff, Open Air, and Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes.
Pharrell in humble opinion got the better of Kanye West. I love the production and chemistry he and Push have together. Kanye West produced Pusha T’s last album by himself, so it’s good to hear Push back with Pharrell. The first song on the album Brambleton is one of the best Pusha T songs to me and Scape It Off is a great record for radio also produced by Pharrell. But maybe in hindsight, my opinion on who had the better production album will change for now this is the closest thing will get to a Verzuz between Ye and Pharrell.
