PASSION PROJECT/DONDA
Kanye West recently released his latest album Donda. Obviously, a lot of events were surrounding the release. This was still one of the best if not best rollouts for an album all year. In 2021 Kanye hasn’t spoken publicly very much, which is a weird thing to say. He’s had had three listening parties at the stadium two in Atlanta one in Chicago. The album had no release date. It was released on Sunday, August 29th, 2021. When the music finally came after all the antics it was still dope.
Donda is a great album. Ye always has created a music bed for his songs. On this project, I feel like Kanye was focusing on making the songs hit hard but also have a melody to them. This is still a new sound for him but I feel like he’s in pocket. The album’s production is very high the mixes just sound good and I think that’s really important for every artist to have especially if you are a legendary artist.
Whoever or however the project was written right? Whatever there’s some great songwriting on the project in my opinion. Jail a song featuring Jay-Z has an arena sound to it. The song is one of the first reminders that Kanye’s person hasn’t changed even though he found God. The chorus alone “Guess Who’s going to Jail God gone post my bail tonight” has a toast for the douchebags kind of vibe.
Even with mixed reviews, I saw about Donda (24 hours after it dropped.) I saw a lot of people posting the song 24. I liked the song, I wasn’t running to it like everyone else though. At least until I found out the song was dedicated to Kobe Bryant and was recorded after he passed. One of my favorite songs on the project is Remote control. The song features Young Thug. It has a great melody and a lot of “replay value”.
Another reason this project is really great is this is better than Kanye’s past few projects. This project might be his best project since Yeezus to me. It has everything Kanye gives us on his projects great features I wouldn’t expect great production and low-key Kanye’s always been talking about God.
For those who are still on the fence about the project give it a chance you never know you might like it. Ye has definitely shown that he’s a scientist when he’s making music. It’s great.
