SHOWIN' OFF/D$TNY
D$TNY is a female spitter who gets straight to the point like a doctor — as mentioned in her "Big Ole Freak" freestyle. Her storytelling cadence is fueled by past experiences, utmost confidence, and her larger-than-life personality. She's not in the same sound bracket as her competitors. D$TNY dabbles into a "pandora box." The instrumentals take on various forms of hip-hop & R&B.
"The message I always want to leave when I rap is that I am not one of them," she adds. "I want to leave the booth, or a room remembered always!"
Music called to D$TNY at 13-years-old. During that time, she and her brother would create songs. "He was the rapper, and he wanted me to sing knowing damn well at the time I sounded crazy," she adds.
As time passed, her love for writing songs grew. Eventually, she filled up her notebook with lyrics.
Fast forward to her spring semester in college, and D$TNY began showcasing her prolific wordplay nationally. At first, she was freestyling in her room because she didn't like the sound of her voice. Then, she adapted to a new voice.
"I started writing more, freestyling for others on campus, and I haven't stopped since," D$TNY adds.
Her previous moniker was “Alexandra The Great" until an artist she was working with (at that time) gave constructive criticism about it.
"I was super offended at first, but when he said to use my name but spell it DSTNY," she said. "I wrote it out, and it looked hard, and I added the money sign cause it felt more extra like myself."
Since then, D$TNY has dropped singles, freestyles, and a mixtape that embodies her "jack off all trades" demeanor, Turn Me Up.
About the album she said:
"The message of the album was for people to turn me the F**** up. I wanted you to dance. I wanted people to have that nasty face while listening and think, 'She's going off right now.' Each song is a vibe. I wanted people to feel something, whether it was shaking your a**, feeling sexy, cookout energy, and everything above. So I think my message got across."
Her inspirations include Lil Kim, Jay-Z, Migos, MC Lyte, and Lauryn Hill.
D$TNY's song "C.R.E.A.M" is a feel-good hip-hop offering that's perfect for dancing to. Lyrically, she tells a story of a woman who's all about her Benjamins. But at what cost?
She spits, "If you in it you in/Gotta hold up your chin/Gotta aim for the win/Can't think about 5 when a pound costs 10."
The song is assisted by a black and white music video. Directed by Homemade Films, "C.R.E.A.M" finds D$TNY getting a special dance by a female in a black leotard while D$TNY dons a black blazer and hat.
Moving forward, expect more visuals from D$TINY.
