Shout out to Nas. God’s Son. Also, shout out to Mass Appeal as a staff record label and a crew. They just did a project with Slick Rick, which was just released a few weeks ago. The album is called Victory and is Slick's first album in a decades, and it’s fire!
If you're a big hip-hop fan, I encourage you to go and listen to that. I want to talk about one of the records on there. It's a dope record. It's called Landlord, and it's about him being a landlord and his struggles to try to get his money back from his tenants in only a way Ricky D can.
It's a great story, and it's amazing storytelling from Slick Rick. It's very, it's very reminiscent of The Great Adventures. It s very reminiscent, and he reminds you what he can still do at 60 years old, and it's a bop, and I think it's important.
I think Slick Rick is the perfect example to show you how and why storytelling in any music form is king, and that's what's going to grab a listener’s attention. Telling a great story, weaving a great story together, showing characters, and HE DID THAT, and he's still doing that.
As soon as you turn it on, it's like my favorite song. I've been playing it back to back and back, but there's more on that album. It's a quick listen, but I do encourage everybody to go check it out, Slick Rick's new album, you know, go check that.
