Hello my loves, and welcome back to another movie review with “The Scope.” This month, I will be reviewing the action film “Cut Throat City”, directed by RZA. I am super excited to give my review on this movie, because I enjoyed this film a lot. So, i’ll do my very best to not give any spoilers.
Cut Throat City features a handful of popular actors such as Shameik Moore, casted as the main role of “Blink”, T.I., as “Lorenzo ‘Cousin’”, Terrance Howard, as “The Saint”, and many many more. So, with that being said, you already know the acting is on point. You just may want to tune in and see which one of your favs will grace your TV screen.
Cut Throat City takes place in 2005, post Hurricane Katrina. Blink and his childhood best friends Andre (Denzel Whitaker), Miracle (Demetrius Shipp Jr.) and Junior (Keean Johnson) are not doing well financially. They all had their own ways of making money, but after Katrina hit, they were not getting any financial help. Especially not from the FEMA assistance program. Unfortunately, this was the fucked up reality for a lot of residents in NOLA after Hurricane Katrina. Especially those living in the ninth ward- which was where the film takes place. So Blink and his buddies take it upon themselves to go see Cousin. Cousin has a task for them that could potentially bring in a lot of money, that is- if executed correctly. They rob a casino. Things go very left. But, not exactly in the way you would expect.
Cut Throat City was very well directed, and very well filmed. The use of colors, the tone of the film, and the soundtrack were all very well done. Within the very first 10 minutes of the movie, I was already starting to feel the direction of where the movie was about to take me. I started to mentally prepare myself. But, I was definitely not prepared for all the plot twists. It was absolutely well written. However, I was a little confused towards the end, and I have a few questions, but nothing that kept me from being able to enjoy the movie fully. I’m honestly not sure if RZA has directed any other films (I definitely should have done my research) but, he did an excellent job. I am a fan! Keep doing your thing RZA.
Now, I don’t want to say too much and spoil it for everyone. I suggest you pop yourself a bag of popcorn (or two), before you tune in, because trust me, you wouldn’t want to miss a thing. give it a 9/10.
**PS** There’s more after the credits!! Enjoy :)
