We're back. We really appreciate everybody who's been receiving and reading the articles, engaging, and commenting. Today, we want to talk about Meet The Grahams.
It's the biggest day, or at least the anniversary of the biggest day in hip-hop. And so I'm going to dive into kind of an alternate universe and talk about Meet The Grahams in an interesting kind of way.
“…but it's almost like he got sandwiched with a back-to-back from Kendrick, you know, he dropped two songs before Family Matters, and he dropped two songs after. “
Meet The Grahams. Some days, it's my favorite Diss track from the whole experience. It's an Alchemist beat. It's something menacing about the beat we rarely hear. Kendrick on Alchemist’s instrumentals. I always knew Kendrick could take it to this spooky space, and he absolutely did. He was very direct, but his tone was consistent most of the record; he sounded disappointed.
He dropped Family Matters, and within an hour, at least Meet The Grahams dropped, and I think that Family is dope. But I'm talking about Drake, man. prior to Meet The Grahams dropping, this is the Back to Back king. This is the dude that nobody wanted to smoke with. That told us for years that he had the “red button” and if he pushed it, things were gonna go to another level. The rapper who was supposed to be the most calculated and seemed to have everyone on his side.
This is the rapper that destroyed Meek Mill, and he battled Pusha T, and battled Common, and battled all these guys. So I was expecting a little bit more from Drake after Meet The Grahams. Yes, Kendrick stepped on Family Matters. Yes, it was a great record, but I do feel like Drake also could have responded quickly. He's usually the person who takes the initiative to control the battle. So it was unexpected. I like to think about what Drake would have done if not like us didn’t come out the next day, that Sunday.

He posted on his story, but that wasn't enough to shake the comments and the social media antics from fans. I think he thought that Family Matters was supposed to be the kill shot and was supposed to kill Kendrick, and it did kill Kendrick for 15 to 30 minutes, and then that boy came right back and stepped on his song.
I think Drake could have absolutely or should have absolutely responded with something to Meet The Grahams. I think Drake was very ill-prepared in hindsight. He had time to make a move, but it's almost like he got sandwiched with a back-to-back from Kendrick, you know, he dropped two songs before Family Matters, and he dropped two songs after. It's interesting to think about what steps he could have taken now that we're like a year removed from the battle, so I just kind of wanted to open up that discussion.
